How we choose the growers and nurseries that supply the catalogue, and why a tighter selection beats an endless one.
Every plant, moss or live animal in the catalogue comes from an identified grower, never from wild collection. That's a line we don't cross, whatever the appeal of a species.
1How we choose
Before adding a live reference to the catalogue, we look at three things: the real origin of cultivation (tissue culture, breeding in Europe, or an identified nursery), the condition on arrival as seen across several test orders, and the clarity of the care conditions the supplier provides. A listing that doesn't tick all three boxes stays out of the catalogue, even if there's demand for it.
We prefer a tighter selection to a catalogue that grows without control. A supplier who stops answering our questions about a batch's origin, or whose quality slips from one order to the next, drops out of the selection.
2What that means for you
Aquarium plants are sold as tissue-cultured, with no snails or hitchhiking algae. Live animals come from breeding, never from capture. Terrarium plants arrive potted, ready to plant, with growing conditions checked before they go on sale.
This selection keeps evolving: a supplier joining the catalogue is first tested on a small volume, and a dedicated guide is only published once the species is mastered in our workshop.
